Sheldon Lavin is the current chairman and celebrated CEO of the OSI Group, LLC. He commenced his career in the meat industry after having a successful career as an executive in the banking industry and owning a financial consulting firm. Lavin’s career began when he settled financing for Otto & Sons, the pioneer firm of OSI Industries, LLC. The firm wanted to build a meat industry to become the leading Midwest supplier of hamburger to the prestigious McDonald’s Corporation.

Sheldon Lavin initially declined the proposal of having an ownership position at Otto & Sons when he was requested by the bank. However, he agreed to be a financial consultant in the firm. Lavin also proposed that if he became a partner at Otto & Sons, his financial investments should not be changed.

Sheldon Lavin later became a partner with Otto & Sons’ two sons when their father retired. McDonald’s requested Lavin to join OSI, the new name of Otto & Sons, on a full-time basis to continue the mutual growth with McDonald’s. He agreed to join OSI Group on full time because he had a deep appreciation of McDonald’s strategies and business culture.

OSI Group continued to expand its operations all over Europe and North America in the 1970s. In the early 1980s, Lavin acquired half of the controlling interest in the company when one partner sold out. When the other partner retired, Lavin became the sole owner of OSI Group. The company proceeded to expand in China, Australia, Japan, Philippine, and India.

Sheldon Lavin is a generous donor in many charities, such as Ronald McDonald House Charities where he also the Chairman of its recent capital campaign. He also contributes to organizations like Jewish United Fund, the Inner City Foundation of Chicago, United d Negro College Fund, Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago, and The National Sclerosis Society.

Lavin is a Board member of two well-known two prestigious organizations, including Rush University Medical Center and the Goodman Theatre. Additionally, he serves as the Director and President of a family charitable organization called The Sheba Foundation. On February 20, 2016, Lavin received a Global Visionary Award by Vision World Academy of India. His leadership has earned the company numerous environmental and sustainability awards.
