Doug Haynes, President of The Council

Dough HaynesDoug Haynes is the President of The Council. He is passionate about connecting people and organizations to enable them to collaborate for the greater good.

Doug’s background includes leadership positions at the Cincinnati Museum Center and the Smithsonian National Zoological Park affiliate, where he served as VP of Operations. Doug also holds a BS in Engineering from Cornell University.

The Council, established in 1953, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting educational, scientific, cultural, and civic institutions that contribute significantly to the quality of life in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. The Council’s mission is “to help build communities by supporting institutions that improve the quality of life.”

Doug Haynes Philanthropy

Doug has an extensive background in operations management, previously serving as vice president for operations at National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. He also served as vice president for administration at the Cincinnati Museum Center, a Smithsonian Affiliate, where he managed the daily operations of three museums with an annual budget of $3 million.

Doug has an undergraduate degree in engineering and biology from the Virginia University of Lynchburg and a master’s degree in engineering from Cornell University, where he received a Phi Beta Kappa Scholarship and was a member of the Eta chapter of the Epsilon Beta Phi Engineering Honor Society.

Doug is committed to improving education by strengthening STEM programs in local schools and colleges. His mission is to support initiatives that provide opportunities for youth to learn more about science, technology, engineering, and math. He is thrilled to support education that allows Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky students to develop a scientific and technological mindset.

Awards and Achievements

Doug has been recognized at numerous local, regional, and national levels for his work in various capacities. In addition to numerous awards for his service and accomplishments, the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce named him the 2011 Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year. The organization also presented him with its George P. Haney Medal for Distinguished Service in Philanthropy. He was also honored by the Greater Cincinnati Foundation and The Ohio Society of Cincinnati as a 2012 Small Business Champion.
