Kelcy Warren is an American businessman who has risen to prominence as a significant energy company Energy Transfer Partners shareholder.
In addition to being ranked among the Forbes 400 wealthiest Americans, Warren is also invested in other sectors of the economy, including finance, banking, and real estate. As the founder of Energy Transfer Partners, an oil and gas pipeline company, Warren has earned a sizeable personal fortune due to his success in the energy industry. According to Forbes, he is currently listed as the 63rd richest person in America.
Warren was born in 1955 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where he attended local schools. Upon graduating high school, Warren earned a business degree at Central State University, where he also played football as a punter and honorary captain of the team. In 1981 Kelcy Warren entered into private business when he co-founded Energy Transfer Equity with his father, Charles W. Warren. Based in Dallas, Texas, the company is currently involved in the natural gas transport and processing industry.
Kelcy Warren has used his influence and wealth to support numerous philanthropic causes. He has participated in educational initiatives, including giving back to schools through his Strong Foundation and donating to his alma mater Central State University with a donation of $25 million in 2008. Kelcy Warren also donated $100 million to the University of North Texas. His primary gift towards education was a $10 million donation to his alma mater Central State University for an academic building named after him; this was one of the most significant donations made by a living individual then.
Kelcy Warren serves as the Chairman of Energy Transfer Partners’ Board of Directors and President of Energy Transfer Equity’s Board of Directors. He is also Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Energy Transfer Equity’s general partner, owning more than 45% of its limited partnership interests.
