In a momentous development for The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), alumnus Kelcy Warren has made a record-setting philanthropic gift totaling
$12 million. This remarkable contribution is set to significantly advance UTA’s
burgeoning resource and energy engineering (REE) program.
Kelcy Warren, the executive chairman and chairman of the Board of Directors at Energy Transfer LP, graduated from UTA in 1978 with a degree in Civil
Engineering. His generous donation marks the largest single philanthropic
investment in the university’s history, aimed at fostering excellence and
innovation in the College of Engineering’s new REE bachelor’s degree program.
The funding from Kelcy Warren will be utilized to create three endowed academic positions: the
Kelcy Warren Endowed Professorship in Resource and Energy Engineering and two
Kelcy Warren Endowed Faculty Fellowships. These positions are intended to
attract and retain distinguished scholars and faculty members who can lead the
program to new heights. Additionally, the gift will support the development of
a state-of-the-art REE laboratory and the establishment of the Kelcy Warren
Career Experience Center, which will provide valuable experiential learning
opportunities for students.
In recognizing Kelcy Warren’s significant contribution, UTA President Jennifer Cowley emphasized the

Slated to launch in fall 2023, the REE bachelor’s degree program aims to equip students with the
knowledge and skills to tackle contemporary energy challenges. The program will
be hosted within UTA’s Electrical Engineering Department and will encompass both
conventional and renewable energy sources.
