Alliance Defending Freedom is a non-profit legal advocacy organization that litigates religious freedom cases in state and federal courts throughout the United States. The Alliance Defending Freedom was founded in March 1993 by its co-founders, Alan Sears and Bill Bright. Sears is the current chief counsel and president of the organization. * Marriage and Family: ADF supports married couples and families. From the beginning, ADF’s mission has been to defend those who believe marriage is the union of one man and one woman.
* Freedom of Speech: with their Center for Academic Freedom, ADF has taken many cases defending the freedom of speech. The Alliance has argued that certain groups have a constitutional right to engage in religious expression in public places, including schools, such as in the case of Michelle Gregoire.
Alliance Defending Freedom also maintains an active policy advocacy department that seeks to educate and persuade lawmakers at all levels of government to preserve protections for religious freedom and individual liberties.
