The United States Supreme Court recently stopped a ruling that was made by a lower court. The ruling allowed doctors to perform abortions in the emergency room, which violated the Idaho Defense of Life Act. The purpose of this law was to ensure that unborn babies and mothers are protected. The only exception to this law was if the abortion was performed because the mother’s life was in imminent danger.

The Attorney General in Idaho enlisted help from the Alliance Defending Freedom in order to get the case to go to the Supreme Court. Raul Labrado, who is the Attorney General, stated that he is pleased with the court’s decision. He stated that everyone involved in the case was working together to help save the lives of unborn children.

Erin Hawley is a senior counsel attorney for the Alliance Defending Freedom. She stated that women and unborn babies need to know that emergency room doctors will go the extra mile to ensure that their lives are protected. Women who have miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies are also protected by this pro-life legislation in Idaho.

Erin also stated that the Biden Administration does not have the right to force doctors to violate the law in Idaho. Chuck Cooper is an attorney and co-founder of Cooper & Kirk. He stated that the district court made the wrong ruling. He also stated that three judges and The Supreme Court supported Idaho’s law. Even though the Supreme Court overruled the ruling that was made by the lower court, it will make its final decision on the case later in 2024.
