Alliance Defending Freedom is the largest legal organization in the world that fights for faith, freedom, and family values. ADF was founded in 1994 by Christian leaders. While many of their clients are Christian, they have also defended Jews, Muslims, Mormons, and people of no faith. ADF has also advocated for students seeking free speech, for parents fighting school boards, and for the preservation of both unborn children and adults on life support.
“Religious Freedom” is the backbone of the mission Alliance Defending Freedom seeks to fulfill. Two notable examples include right-to-worship issues such as protecting the rights of Pastor Clyde’s church signs, and fighting for faith-based businesses such as Masterpiece Cakeshop Case. Both cases went to the Supreme Court where ADF’s clients won their case and upheld their inalienable constitutional right to religious freedom.
Alliance Defending Freedom also strongly supports free speech, especially on college campuses. ADF’s Center for Academic Freedom has won over 400 victories for students exercising their free speech. For example, when Michelle Gregoire was promoting her club Young Americans for Liberty at Kellogg Community College administrators and police arrested her for handing out copies of the U.S. Constitution on campus. Michelle and her friends tried to explain that the very Constitution they were handing out protected their right to do so, but the college didn’t listen. Alliance Defending Freedom successfully stepped in to make sure Michelle’s and her friends’ right to free speech was ultimately respected.
Alliance Defending Freedom also values the sanctity of human life and fights to protect it against unjust termination. For example, ADF protected Jesse Ramirez from his estranged wife while he lay in a coma on life support.
