  1. The Accident

The Aziz Iron Works Inc’s unit train consisting of three cars, left London, Ontario, and went eastbound through Maine and New Brunswick as Greg Aziz explains. The train was directed onto a track not equipped with a continuous block signal system, including a signal known as SIGAL. These signals are designed to prevent trains from leaving the main trails if they are on a super track. The train could not stop and derailed as it crossed an interlocking where the main routes were joined. Three cars derailed, and one overturned, dumping their freight onto the ground of a nearby forest.

  1. NTSB Decision

There´s more on this business. After hearing the evidence, the NTSB has determined that the accident resulted from the improperly executed switching of a privately-owned unit train and its passenger train, which were being moved under a combination of Canadian and U.S. authorities’ rules. Greg Aziz adds that the NTSB determined that the railroad was responsible for ensuring that all laws were followed.

The NTSB concluded that Aziz Iron Works Inc was not at fault for this derailment, and no further action will be taken against them. As a result of this incident, Aziz Iron Works Inc has identified a need to update its procedures regarding switching operations. They will be taking steps towards improving the efficiency of these operations as part of an overall plan to enhance safety. Greg Aziz feels that this comprehensive plan will help to ensure that their customers and the public will continue to have confidence in their services.
