In 1996, Cordelia S. May created the Colcom Foundation. Being 68 at the time, she imbued the core of the Foundation with her ideals. Although often misunderstood at the time, modern scholars now understand the value of her ideas. Many of these ideas, of course, lie at the center of the Foundation’s core ideals. One of the most important of these, however, is the importance of the environment.

Charitable Concerns

Protecting the environment is vital for the future. Cordelia understood this and recognized that unrestricted growth would gradually degrade the world around her. Nowadays, the impact of overpopulation is clear – pollution, habitat destruction and a collapse of ecosystems for example. Throughout her life, Cordelia worked tirelessly for ways to prevent these problems as well as creating ways for continued sustainability in the future. This lifelong passion can be felt in each of the tenets that act as the core of the Foundation. It’s no surprise that the Foundation also works tirelessly in supporting projects with a similar goal. Through their grants, they have supported many organizations, such as the Center for Biological Diversity, which works towards protecting endangered species, and the Sierra Club Foundation, which advocates for clean energy and climate solutions. These grants have helped to advance important causes and support organizations that strive to make a difference.

Building For The Future

Colcom Foundation supports many nation-wide projects that focus on the impact of human population growth on the environment. These projects are themselves quite varied and encompass a wide selection of ideas. Some projects, for example, focus on family planning through education and media to help reduce the number of unplanned and unwanted births. Other projects focus instead on conservation or immigration. No matter what focus a project has, however, each is tied together through a singular purpose.

United Through Hope

Colcom Foundation has continued to receive substantial funding since the death of Cordelia S. May in 2005. Likewise, the Foundation has continued to uphold her ideals as well as honor her humanitarian purpose. There is an imbalance between humankind and nature. The Foundation understands that the only way forward is by bringing the world back into alignment. See this article for more information.
