Kelcy Warren is the chairman and chief executive officer of Energy Transfer Partners, L.P. (ETP). He was born in 1952 and studied engineering before starting his career at Pipe Line Contractors, Inc. in 1974. Warren is a veteran of the first Gulf War, fought for the U.S., and holds a Bronze Star to prove it. Warren is one of more than a dozen billionaires in the United States, but he could only have gotten there with one man: Kelcy.

Kelcy Warren has had an incredible impact on the oil business. He was the first chairman of the Producing Oil and Gas Fields Operators Association from 1982-1986 and was a major advocate for hydraulic fracturing. He worked with the U.S. Department of Energy on a study examining the benefits and possible risks fracking presented. Still, ETP fought against regulation and successfully delayed approval for years through many lawsuits against state regulators (Fracking timeline).

In 2010, Kelcy Warren was elected to the Independent Petroleum Association of America board. In 2011, he was appointed chairman of the board. He is a member of the American Petroleum Institute and a former president of Energy Transfer Equity (ETE). ETE is owned by Warren and Dallas-based billionaires Ray Hunt and his son R. Hunter Hunt. In 2012, ETE merged with Comverge Corp., which was co-founded by Kelcy Warren’s wife, Lisa Edlebrock, in 1996 (Energy Transfer Partners).

Kelcy Warren is part of the “Night Hawk” oil group, a group of Texas billionaires actively involved in the oil and gas business. G. Robert Blakey founded the group, which has now grown to include other billionaires like T. Boone Pickens and John Childs (Texas Oil Billionaires). Warren serves on the board of trustees at Baylor University and has donated $63 million since 2011 (Baylor Foundation). Warren is also a member of many organizations, including The Woodrow Wilson Center and USA Track & Field (Straw Poll). He and his wife, Lisa Edlebrock, have contributed over $62 million to various causes and organizations. Kelcy owns an art collection, including artwork by Norman Rockwell.
