Gretchen Robinson is the President and CEO of Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation, one of the nation’s most significant public-private partnerships. Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation has provided housing, commercial, and other services to Roosevelt Island’s population.

Gretchen Robinson has had a role in nearly every facet of RIOC’s operations, including management services, government affairs, political activity, financial analysis, and development strategies. She has been responsible for developing business opportunities, establishing operating standards, and creating new policies across RIOC’s divisions.

Robinson has expanded RIOC’s development division’s focus on real estate and neighborhood revitalization to include enterprise zone management, infrastructure development, and other municipal services such as police, fire, and emergency medical services. As a result of her efforts, Roosevelt Island saw a reduction in emergency response times over the past year.

Robinson has also expanded RIOC’s financial management division, introducing closer monitoring of finances, spending, and contracting. In addition, she has developed an in-house examiner’s office to ensure compliance with accepted auditing standards.

As executive director of RIOC’s planning committee, Robinson was instrumental in obtaining support for the New Jersey Housing Finance Agency and the federal government for the new housing project. She also worked with the New York State Department of Transportation to improve infrastructure in Midtown Manhattan and Lower Manhattan in preparation for a new subway.

Robinson was also involved with numerous other projects throughout her career, including construction management on several public housing developments and an urban-renewal plan in Harlem.

Under Robinson’s leadership, Roosevelt Island has been recognized by the New York State Association of Affordable Housing Companies as Community of the Year. This honor recognizes community-based non-profit developers “who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to improving the lives of their clients.” She has been lauded as a visionary by many in the real estate industry, and she has received numerous awards for her management and service.

Robinson has been a critical figure in the development of Roosevelt Island. Her leadership and business acumen have helped to transform this once-remote island into a flourishing neighborhood in the borough of Manhattan.
